The End of Summer in White Rock
The final days of summer are upon us: kids are getting ready to go back to school, leaves are changing, and soon we’ll get to enjoy another cozy White Rock autumn. There’s still time to get through your summer to-do list though!
With a ton of activities and good food, White Rock is the perfect spot to create some final summer 2021 memories. Here are a few suggestions on what to do:
Go to the Beach: The beach is our backyard, a playground of sorts – and although it will soon be too cold to swim or run barefoot towards the water, there is still time to enjoy the warm weather now. With so many activities to do at the beach, you can spend a whole day there. From boating, paddle boarding or surfing, there is also just the simple pleasure of walking along the coast, squishing sand between your toes. While the tide tends to sweep far back from the shore, there are plenty of opportunities to collect seashells or spot some wildlife such as crabs, herons, seals, and more.
Go For Ice Cream: With a grand selection of amazing ice cream shops all along Marine Drive, there are never ending flavours and places to try! From homemade gelato shops to 50’s style ice cream parlours, you can’t go wrong with a delectable scoop to end the summer season. Rent E-Bikes: Located on Marine Drive in East Beach, Zoom E-Bikes offer electric bicycles for rent or purchase. They make a great excuse to get some exercise while exploring more of what White Rock has to offer. Go on the trails through Johnston Park and explore the forested area amid lush trees with plenty of dirt paths to follow. You could also bike along the promenade and take in serene views of the ocean, or take it to Uptown and skim the stores, restaurants and public art that decorate the streets. Enjoy a Patio: Just like summer, patio season is coming to an end, and with it, so many great moments to soak up the sun outside. White Rock has a stellar selection of unique and sunny patios, in a variety of cuisines and styles. Whether you are looking for fine dining or a quick bite, a west coast inspired brunch or are just wanting to get some Mexican, White Rock has a restaurant for you and patio to go with it. Fish and Chips: If you are looking for suggestions on the type of meal to order you can never go wrong with fish and chips. A classic any time of the year, this meal is made better eaten on a hot summer day and there is no shortage of these places in White Rock. Walk the Pier: Finally, summer in White Rock would not be complete without a walk on the pier. A popular tourist attraction any time of year, the pier is made even more beautiful by the summer. Clear views of where the sea meets the sky dotted with puffy, white clouds and the bright sun, in summer the views are at their most picturesque.
Take your time walking to the end of the pier, relax on the benches and take in the view, or get to the end and snap some pictures. It’s a perfect way to end the summer and to end a day in White Rock.
