White Rock’s Bakeries!

White Rock might be better known for its ice cream or seafood (or other food groups more closely associated with living on a beach), but we have many other amazing culinary options to check out! Including some fantastic bakeries to fulfill all your delicious pastry desires.

Whether you are stopping in for a morning coffee and a quick snack, buying loaves of bread for workday sandwiches, or grabbing a dozen cookies for an evening dinner party, bakeries have your back, so here are the ones to check out in White Rock!

Laura’s Coffee Corner: Laura’s offers a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere, one similar to coffee shops we see in classic television shows, such as Luke’s Diner of Gilmore Girls or Central Perk of Friends. It’s inviting, warm and makes you want to stay as long as you can. They offer a wide selection of breakfast and lunch choices as well as fresh baked goods, from their rich danishes filled with seasonal fruit, to their cinnamon sticks, with their dense batter and a swirl of sweet cinnamon throughout.

A signature spot in Uptown, this cafe acts as a hub for the community, with many locals adding a stop at Laura’s to their day. There are always people sitting inside and outside sipping on coffees and indulging in flaky pastries or hearty sandwiches. It is a must-go destination if you are looking to truly experience White Rock like a local.

Chez Christophe: Entering this shop you might feel as though you are in a posh cafe along the streets of Switzerland rather than in Uptown White Rock. Their atmosphere is sleek and sophisticated complete with marble tabletops and pops of blue and gold everywhere you look.

A Swiss chocolatier, Christophe is best known for serving up artisanal chocolate truffles, complete with intricate designs, and individual cakes with glossy icing and colourful layers, both almost too pretty to eat. They also have an array of house-made pastries, mainly in the form of croissants, from hazelnut to classic ham and cheese to even ones in the shape of a cube. Puffy and flaky, you can taste the rich butter as you bite into the layers of delicate pastry.

If you are dying to get over to Europe and just awaiting the day you can hop on a plane again, then check out Chez Christophe to alleviate some of that bubbling anticipation.

Hillcrest Bakery: This little bakery has been crowned White Rock’s oldest business and they have earned that coveted title for a reason. Their products are freshly baked in-house from scratch, every day, where you can see the process happening as soon as you enter the building. The actual baking facility is steps away from the counter and the giant glass case filled with rows and rows of delectable goodies. It is the perfect bakery to take children to for their kid-friendly treats like sprinkle covered cake pops to chocolate dipped emoji cookies.

They also have a variety of house made breads in an array of styles from whole wheats and sourdoughs to focaccia dotted with rosemary and sea salt to sweet breads filled with cranberries or sweet cinnamon. A great place to stop for both some kitchen staples and maybe a sweet treat for yourself.
