Christmas Gift Guide for your Bookworm!

Christmas is just around the corner and to celebrate we are putting together gift guides for you all month long! For this gift guide we are focusing on the bookworm in your life. Whether they constantly have a book in their hands or are trying to become more of a reader for their New Year’s Resolution, we have got you covered with great gift ideas from even better local businesses.

Here is how to shop for all things reading in White Rock this holiday season.

Stillman Books: A bookworm gift guide wouldn’t be complete without a proper bookstore, and Stillman Books is the perfect place to check out. A local gem since 2016, this second-hand shop has all the novelties of a great book store, from its floor to ceiling selection, cozy atmosphere and editions of collectible classics and antique books. Although you might be looking for something else, you may just stumble on a new favourite for yourself! This shop also has a large kids’ section, perfect for little ones who love to read or are eager to learn. They also offer gift certificates so if you’re unsure which will be the next great novel to get your loved one, they can come back and pick one out themselves.

Location: Central Plaza, 15158 North Bluff Rd

The Handpicked Home: When reading comes to mind you may think of the little things that enhance curling up with a good book. Sitting by the fire under a cozy blanket, candles burning and a cup of tea to the side. Offering kitchenware, apothecary and more, this shop has a variety of products that make reading ten times better. From a large selection to aromatic teas and seasonal candles, they also have many funny mugs with expressions that can go along with your gift recipient’s, humour such as “Shhh… no one cares” and “Come at me Bro”. All of The Handpicked Home’s goodies are locally-sourced first, so you know the money is going straight back to the community.

Islands Cafe: If your gift recipient isn’t much of a tea drinker, try getting them a bag of coffee. Islands Cafe imports their beans from places like Hawaii and Nicaragua and roasts them on site in-store so you always get the freshest batches of tropical brews. Recently, they have started coffee subscription boxes, which brings bags of coffee beans straight to your door. Add a yearly subscription to your gift or check out their selection of cozy merchandise, candles or coffee mugs. Their mugs are handcrafted by a local White Rock ceramics artist, Susan Johnston.

Eyebar Optometry & Optical Boutique: If you’re thinking a little bigger for this year’s gift-giving, then look at getting your loved one some glasses. Whether specifically reading glasses, sunglasses, or for one’s regular prescription, Eyebar has stylish frames in many designer brands including Versace, Maui Jim and Dior. All to go with your loved one’s style and pair perfectly with any book.
