The White Rock BIA is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of local business and property owners or their designated representatives. Board members formulate and oversee implementation of policies and initiatives consistent with the purpose of the White Rock Business Improvement Association. At the Annual General Meeting held on October 3, 2017 the following members were elected or subsequently added to the Board.

Ernie Klassen

President
Representing: Ashberry & Logan Floral Designers

Ernie graduated in 1981 from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After returning to his hometown of Abbotsford, he operated Imagemakers Photography until 1990. During this time, he served as a Director, Treasurer and President of the Upper Fraser Valley Neurological Society. In 1990, Ernie became Executive Director and later President of the BC and Yukon Association of Child Development and Rehabilitation.

In 1997, Ernie opened Ashberry & Logan Floral Design on Davie Street in Vancouver. In 2002, he moved the business to White Rock. Ashberry & Logan is committed to offering only the finest floral arrangements and gifts, backed by service that is friendly and prompt. The professional staff is dedicated to making your experience a pleasant one.

As President of the BIA, Mr. Klassen is committed to the growth and success of all White Rock businesses. Ernie is interested in working jointly with the City of White Rock and other community stakeholders in order to create a vibrant retail sector in our ever-changing community.

Susy Tucker

Representing: Leanna Parkes & Associates

Susan (Susy) Tucker has been a Registered Massage Therapist in the City of White Rock for 15 years. She has happily raised her family in White Rock and been involved in various community organizations, most notably the White Rock Hospice Society.

Susy is currently serving her second two year term on the White Rock BIA Board of Directors. She has a firm commitment to giving back to the community that has so enriched her life and the life of her family.

Anna Christie

Representing: Spiritual Ingredients Bakery & Cafe

Anna Christie is a co-owner and business manager of Spiritual Ingredients Bakery on Marine Drive. Not only is she a part-time sous chef there but she is also responsible for marketing, advertising and social media for her business.

Anna studied for her MBA at City University in Seattle and holds two other degrees and a post-graduate diploma in Clinical Counselling. She is the author of the award-winning personal leadership book Evoking Change: Make a Difference in Your Life and in the World. Anna is a keynote speaker and workshop leader in the areas of conflict, leadership and systemic change.

The BIA is proud to have Anna as a representative of the merchants and property owners of East Beach.

Jenny Bray

Director Representing: David Michael of London

Jenny has an extensive background in digital marketing through her work in advertising agencies, with Best Buy Canada and most recently as the owner of Bayside Social a digital marketing consulting company which helps create and implement digital marketing strategies for businesses. She is also the founder of South Rock Buzz an online community designed to connect residents, visitors and businesses within South Surrey & White Rock digitally by sharing events, highlighting businesses and showcasing all of the great things our community has to offer.

Born and raised in this community and now raising her two young sons here, her family has a long history of working and owning businesses in White Rock giving her valuable insight into the challenges businesses face in this community. Jenny is passionate about White Rock and looks forward to bringing her digital marketing expertise to the board and helping create a positive, vibrant and thriving business community in White Rock.

Jennifer Hammersmark

Director

Jennifer has been working in the mental health field since 1984. She has a Doctorate Degree in Psychology, and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Jennifer is married, is a Christian and a mother of two young adults. She enjoys helping people to be the best they can be from age 5 to 105!

Jennifer has been in private practise since 1994. In the beginning of her career, Jennifer specialized in working with children with behaviour disorders and addressing a variety of unhealthy family dynamics. Her focus areas now include ICBC accident recovery, Victim Assistance claims, teenage dilemmas and sex therapy. Jennifer’s training is in Family Systems Theory, although she does draw from other theoretical orientations.

Jennifer brings her years of business experience. She owned and operated a secretarial service in the downtown core of Vancouver for six years. Jennifer is familiar with organizational struggles and enjoys working with the corporate sector. Her expertise includes stress management, team building, teaching and facilitating.

Carlos Lapena

Representing: Roper Avenue Chiropractic

Carlos graduated from the University of Toronto (1981) and subsequently the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (1986). Carlos will reach his 30th year of chiropractic practice in 2016. Carlos is a resident and business owner in White Rock since 1999. He has served in his strata council since its inception. It was a natural attraction to become active in the BIA as a business owner and a stakeholderin the City by the Sea. Carlos looks forward to supporting the BIA in its vision of enhancing the City of White Rock’s businesses.

Brian Merwin

Director

Brian is a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones. He started building his practice in the White Rock area in 2013 and opened up the White Rock Edward Jones office in 2015. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree and a Diploma of Technology in Financial Planning from BCIT. He grew up in the lower mainland and currently resides with his family in Surrey. Outside of work he enjoys playing sports and trail-running in the local mountains. He looks forward to being of service to the BIA in helping local businesses.

Terry Ross

Representing: WR/SS Chamber of Commerce

Terry Ross has lived in the White Rock area since 1954 and graduated from Semiahmoo Secondary School. Mr. Ross worked in the retail photographic sales industry from 1967 until retiring in 2014. As a manager of Foto Source in Central Plaza, Terry served as a member of the Foto Source Canada Board of Directors for 7 years with 3 years as Chairman of the Board. In the local community, Terry was a Senior Auxiliary Firefighter (retired after 32 years of service) with White Rock Fire Rescue and served as President of the White Rock Auxiliary Firefighters Association. Mr. Ross is currently a Director of the South Surrey/White Rock Chamber of Commerce. Terry is a long-time supporter of White Rock Business Improvement Association and 2 years ago became a member of the Board of Directors.

Sandy Saran

Sandy Saran is a Principal at Forge Properties, a White Rock based award winning real estate development company. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant with a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Technology in Accounting and a Diploma of Technology in Financial Management. Sandy is a proud mother of two and lives in Surrey with her husband.
