Now that CBC SearchLight winner Desirée Dawson is back home in White Rock where she was raised, it’s time to take stock before moving into the next phase of her career.
“I feel like it’s time to take a nice, deep sign,” Dawson told Alex Browne of the Peace Arch News. The 25 year old singer rode her rangy and soulful timbre, unorthodox self-accompaniment on baritone ukulele, and original composition, Hide, to the top spot in the national contest.
The Earl Marriott grad (class of 2009) seems determined to hang on to her unpretentious self, in spite of her whirlwind of post contest publicity that came about as part of her win.
Desiree spent most of the past three months in Jamaica writing music for her debut EP, taking this time to soak in the nature and vibe of the land which she holds very deeply in her roots. You can definitely expect to hear the island influence in her debut EP along with some great live instrumentation.Back to Artists
