The White Rock Business Improvement Association is proud to represent more than 600 businesses and commercial property owners within the City of White Rock. The guiding mission of the White Rock Business Improvement Association is to work as a tireless advocate for economic and business development, raise the overall profile of the White Rock business community and partner with the City of White Rock to reinvest in the four major business districts.
The White Rock Business Improvement Association is seeking a community minded leader as Executive Director. Reporting to a Board of Directors comprised of local business and property owners, the Executive Director will plan for, manage, administer and operate the organization to achieve the Mission, Vision and Strategic Plans.
The ideal candidate will have strong initiative, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to balance event management, financial management, member relations, marketing, advocacy, and governance. The successful applicant will be willing to work the flexible hours required to work with the BIA Board, association members, partner organizations and the community at large. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
The Executive Director must demonstrate strong initiative, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to balance event management, financial management, member relations, marketing, advocacy, and governance. The Executive Director will be expected to perform the following duties as well as any additional duties as proposed by the membership and approved by the Board of Directors.
Take over and manage both current and future BIA events and meetings
(e.g. Taste of White Rock, Concerts at Pier, Christmas Open House, etc.)
Modify current events for maximum potential and benefit to the membership, sponsors and partners
Initiate, encourage and promote networking and social events with the membership
Work with the Board on setting of dates, times and locations of meetings and events
Initiating new events and have the ability to carry them through to completion
Work with BIA partners and sponsors to maximise event potential
Work within current and future BIA bylaws and Strategic Plan as adopted by the Board
Cooperate and work with the Board on BIA guidelines for office management and Executive Director compliance
(e.g. Polices & Procedures documents)
Attend meetings with City, the Board, partners, sponsors, members or others as required
(e.g. Tourism White Rock, Johnston Road Task Force, City Council, etc.)
Attend all possible internal meetings of BIA committees, task forces or other specialized groups
(e.g. Events, Beautification & Enhancement, Executive, etc.)
OFFICE & STAFFING
Oversee hiring, training, evaluation and monitoring of office staff
Creating a positive and safe atmosphere and work flow within the BIA office
Schedule external events, meetings and other work to maximize workplace efficiency.
This person must be willing to work flexible hours that sometimes may include evenings and/or weekends
Work hours will average 40 hours/week.
Some background in posting on social media would be desirable
(e.g. Facebook, Twitter, BIA website, etc.)
Ability to work with the BIA website to add or change posted material
Some knowledge of preparing and executing of PowerPoint presentations
Able to write media releases, newsletters and other reports for internal and external release
(e.g. Newspaper column, e-newsletters, project reports, etc.)
Willingness to meet and talk with individual members at BIA office or at their location
Visit member locations on a regular basis to better understand their concerns and challenges
All questions or inquiries to be dealt with in a timely and efficient manner
Work on behalf of members and all partners to resolve differences or mediate concerns
Advise members of changes in City, Provincial or Federal business legislation
